“Be thankful for the struggles in life because without it, you wouldn’t have stumbled across your strengths” – Megan Foglia

For 23 year old Megan Foglia sports has taught her how to live a life that inspires others.  “Athletes have this competitiveness and drive that makes them different from others. As an athlete you are constantly proving yourself…”

On October 27th during Megan’s senior year game for Binghamton University she tore her ACL and her life changed.

The next day she met with Micah Lessee at UHS. It was determined she needed surgery.  “Prior to surgery I participated in UHS physical therapy, with Brian Tableman to strengthen my muscles. Two weeks post-surgery I started working with Brittany at UHS physical therapy. Though recovering physically was a process in itself, mental recovering was an uphill battle. Not being able to engage in fitness/sports and constantly comparing myself to where I was and where I used to be was a struggle. Brittany and Nicholas (her assistant) stood by me encouraging me, wiping away my tears on rough days, and celebrating with me my victories.

“Once I “graduated” from physical therapy I moved on to the Bridge Program where I worked with strength and conditioning coach Stephen Reyes. With the determination I had within myself, to be better than before, and with the help of those surrounding me, I bounced back better than ever, both mentally and physically.

I am grateful for all of these opportunities presented to me to express my stories and to show individuals reading this that it is okay to feel a set back but to keep moving forward because there is greatness in the near future. Surrounding yourself with positive vibes and people that encourage you is helpful but it comes within yourself to accept the circumstances and what you do with it. I was set back by my injury but now i am a better, stronger athlete both mentally and physically.
