IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Endwell, NY – This coming Ash Wednesday Pastor Rachel Helgeson will be offering “Ashes to Go” outside of Northminster Presbyterian church along Farm-to-Market Road.
Two convenient times have been offered; during the morning commute from 7:00-8:30 AM and over the lunch hour from 11:30 AM-1:00 PM. The regular Ash Wednesday service will be held inside at 7:00 PM.
“Our church is striving to establish close ties to our community”, offered Pastor Rachel. “We have several programs that serve our area from the CHOW food pantry, rummage sales, holiday events, the Northminster Preschool, furniture garage, and much more”, added Rachel. “Creating “Ashes to Go” seems like a natural extension to the direction this church is taking. Welcoming God’s people where they are in our neighborhood.”
Pastor Rachel, her husband Chris, and their two children joined Northminster in January 2018 after a pastor search committee offered Rachel the Pastor’s position at Northminster. Rachel and Chris have degrees in music and appreciated Northminster’s strong programs in both music and community outreach.
The Music Committee at Northminster has greatly expanded opportunities for local musicians to perform at services and events. In recent months, the following musicians have performed: Maria Aimoniotis (soprano), Yuming Zhang (guzheng instrumentalist), Melissa Collins (harp), Julian Deshi (tenor), The U-E String Ensemble, Chris Roode (marimba), and The Southern Tier Brass Quintet.
The schedule for the next few months includes: Ruth Kochera (piano) on March 17th, The Northminster Brass Ensemble on April 21st, Larry Lolli (guitar) on April 28th, Gina O’Sullivan (soprano) on May 26th, and the Maine-Endwell High School Vocal Ensemble on June 9th .
We invite you, whatever your schedule might be, to join us at Northminster on March 6th for “Ashes to Go” between 7:00-8:30 AM or 11:30 AM-1:00 PM or for our Taize style Ash Wednesday service in our sanctuary led by the Northminster Chancel Choir at 7:00 PM for the Imposition of Ashes. This is an opportunity for us to begin our Lenten Journey together and be drawn together as a community in love.
